Emmanuel Frimpong, a 6-year-old boy from Akim Mofram in the Eastern Region has been diagnosed with a medical condition called Bilateral Conjunctival Papillomata of the upper and lower eyelids.
Conjunctival Papillomata is a histopathological term describing tumours with specific morphology which takes on a classic finger like or cauliflower-like appearance.
The class 1 pupil of Vision International School finds it difficult closing his eyes properly because of the condition he’s in and according to the boy’s mother, his son has had this since he was 2 and has progressively been increasing in size.
Doctors at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital say Emmanuel will require surgery to correct his condition.
The surgery which is scheduled to be in August 2017 will be done in two phases; one eye at a time will cost GHS4, 000 and that includes medications.
Emmanuel’s mother is appealing for support from Ghanaians to help save her son’s eye since she can’t afford the cost of the surgery.
