They came under attack from persons suspected to be Fulani Herdsmen while on operational duties at Agogo in the Ashanti region on Monday.

The nomadic herdsmen are said to have ambushed the security personnel who had responded to a distress call from a woman that her farm was being destroyed by a herd of cattle.

The herdsmen allegedly shot the security operatives from behind.

The three soldiers and a police officer were rushed to the Agogo Presbyterian Hospital where their condition was stabilised.

The fourth security personnel who was shot on the shoulder has been treated and discharged.

Medical officer-in-charge of the Accident and Emergency Unit at Agogo Presbyterian Hospital, Emmanuel Mensah confirmed to TV3’s Ibrahim Abubakar that they were able to stabilise the condition of the three soldiers before being referred to KATH.

According to him, one of them had a pellet down the throat which blocked the airway, with another sustaining shots at the base of the skull.

Dr. Mensah said one of soldiers shot at the back had a pellet going into the vertebral column.

Meanwhile, a group calling itself Youth of Asante Akyem  Agogo in the Asanti Akyem North District have threatened to take the “law into our hands” if nothing is done about the attacks by the nomads that have gone on for years.

“The people of Agogo, especially the youth, have been pushed hard to the wall by the Fulani herdsmen for far too long, so hard that they are now not allowed to even farm on their own lands! They have been peaceful and law-abiding all these years in the face of wanton aggression by alien, lawless Fulani herdsmen but have now resolved to fight back in self-defence and reclaim their lands even at the cost of their lives!”
