Egypt coach Hector Cuper is not getting carried away despite watching his side hand Ghana a 2-0 defeat in the 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifiers on Sunday.

Mohammed Salah scored from a penalty on 43 minutes after Harrison Afful fouled Mahmoud Hassan ‘Trezeguet’, before Abdallah El-Said put the game beyond reach with a goal in the 85th minute at the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria.

Ghana, though, controlled possession on the day, with the stats reading 61 against 39 at the end of first half.

“There are still 12 points at stake, [and] technically all teams can secure qualification to the World Cup,” Cuper said.

“There are four remaining games, [So] I can’t talk about securing qualification now.

“We faced a strong team. I wished our performance was better.

‘We [had] several [misplaced passes] but at the end, we achieved what we wanted – getting the three points.”

Egypt sit top of Group E, five points above the Black Stars. Uganda hold the second spot with four points following a 1-0 triumph over Congo on Saturday.

“We let the Ghanaian team control the possession and we won the game at the end,” Cuper added.

“The goals came at great timing. It was perfect.”

The Pharaohs are eyeing their third appearance at the World Cup.

Their last outing was at Italy 1990 where they suffered a first round exit.
