It was clear under Louis van Gaal that none of Manchester United’s defence had any business being first choice at a club that wanted to win the Premier League and succeed in Europe.
Mourinho might be surprised just how poor his defence is, given he only saw fit to buy Eric Bailly in the summer, but he is right to keep going with the squad overhaul. The early goals they have conceded recently are preventing their hobbled attack even more.
