After signing Kevin Durant in the summer, the Golden State Warriors are expected to be the best team in the league next season. Some are even calling the Warriors a super-team, which with Durant, Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson, they basically are.
But despite Golden State’s expected dominance, former Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant thinks the Warriors should bring out the best of their opponents.
At least, that what the Warriors would do for him.
Appearing on the “Jim Rome Show” on CBS Sports Radio, Bryant said that he is happy for Durant and that it is the type of offseason move that would bring out his competitive edge.
“I was happy for him. This is something that he wants to do man, he’s happy with his decision,” Bryant told Rome about Durant. “So as a competitor you have to look at that and say ok, how can I figure out, I have to figure out to take apart that team, and so now the challenge becomes how to find cracks within their system within their personnel, how can I take them down.”
This is typical Kobe lingo as his entire illustrious 20-year career was fueled by adversity. But this is also solid advice and should be the type of mentality opposing teams should have when taking on the Warriors.
Plus, what Bryant says he would do, is basically what the Cavaliers did during the NBA Finals as they were able to take advantage of Golden State’s limited weaknesses to come back from a 3-1 deficit and win the championship.
Of course now that Durant is in Golden State, it’s all easier said than done. But that is all part of the challenge Bryant talks about and will be a main focus for championship contending teams all season.
