Kenya’s opposition has warned of mass protests if the upcoming general elections are rigged.
The country’s main opposition leader Raila Odinga said on Wednesday that the east African nation is not ready for another rigged election.
His remarks are likely to arouse tension as Kenyans are already wary of a repeat widespread violence that erupted after disputed polls in 2007 that saw more than 1,200 people killed and thousands displaced.
Political temperatures have been rising, with the government and the Opposition differing over the election amendment law to allow the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to use a manual system in the event the electronic system fails.
Nevertheless, IEBC is assuring the public of delivering a credible poll.
The opposition has highlighted several times that multiple people had been registered to vote with the same identity card.
However, the government says that Odinga was rushing to discredit the voting process in order to lay the ground for challenging the results on the streets.
