South African scrum-half Ross Cronje will miss this weekend’s third and final Test against France because of delayed concussion symptoms, the Springboks said on Tuesday.
Cronje, 27, made a strong debut in Pretoria two weeks ago against the French in the first Test match which the Boks clinched 37-14, following up with a second impressive outing which the hosts won 37-15 to clinch the series.
“Ross showed delayed symptoms of concussion on Monday and he will not be able to get through the recovery protocols in time for him to be considered for selection,” Springbok team doctor Dr Konrad von Hagen said in a statement.
“We withdrew him from training yesterday and he will rest for the duration of the week.”
Francois Hougaard and Rudy Paige will provide the Springboks with cover for this weekend’s final match at Ellis Park in Johannesburg. No replacement will be called up to the squad.
