San Francisco Giants ace Madison Bumgarner, who injured his pitching shoulder in a dirt bike accident, admitted on Monday his off-day recreation was perhaps “not the most responsible” choice.
“It’s terrible,” Bumgarner said in his first public comments on the accident that could see him out of the Giants lineup for up to eight weeks with a sprained shoulder and bruised ribs.
He had the accident on Thursday in Colorado, on the team’s day off in Denver.
“Obviously, it was not my intentions when we set out to enjoy the off day,” he said. “I realize that’s definitely not the most responsible decision I’ve made. It sucks not being able to be out here with my guys.”
Bumgarner’s left arm was in a sling as he spoke with reporters. he was scheduled for a second MRI exam on Monday night.
The 2014 World Series hero had never previously been on the disabled list in his eight major league seasons.
The 27-year-old is 0-3 with a 3.00 earned-run-average this season.
Earlier this season he became the first pitcher in major league history to hit two home runs on Opening Day.
