Two Croatian men have been charged with violating public order, a judge said Thursday, after they allegedly racially insulted Oscar-winning US actor Jamie Foxx.

The 49-year-old star is currently in Croatia’s southern resort of Dubrovnik shooting a new adaptation of Robin Hood, in which he portrays Little John.

But he was the victim of a racist slur in a local restaurant on Sunday evening, Croatian media reported.

Foxx also said in an Instagram post, which was later deleted, that the men used racist terms against him.

Police said they arrested two men, aged 44 and 50, for insulting restaurant guests and staff.

“The 50-year-old insulted one of the guests on racial grounds,” police said in a statement without identifying the victim.

When asked about the case, judge Mirjana Lujak told AFP that the two men were charged for “seriously violating public order in a particularly arrogant and indecent way”.

The pair were released after questioning but if found guilty could face fines of around 700 euros ($739) or up to one month in jail.

“Robin Hood: Origins” is directed by Otto Bathurst and stars British actor Taron Egerton as Robin alongside Foxx’s Little John. Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way Productions is one of the producers.

The movie is set to be released in the United States in March next year.

Dubrovnik, a UNESCO World Heritage site and former Renaissance trading power, has been transformed into medieval Nottingham for two weeks of filming.

The popular tourist city last year provided a backdrop for scenes in the next “Star Wars” movie. Since 2011 the city has also doubled up as King’s Landing, the capital of the Seven Kingdoms in the hit HBO fantasy series “Games of Thrones”.
