Enthusiastic Voters Queue, Mark Spots With Stones [photos]

Voters hoping to avoid delays in long queues started marking their spots and taking positions Tuesday night, almost 10 hours to the general election today December 7.

Some eager voters secured their spots with stones, plastic, chairs, big cans (popularly called Kufuor Gallons) among others at various polling stations across the country.

With Ghana’s presidential and parliamentary elections often characterised by delays in long queues, many voters would have to stand in long queues to casts their ballots in today’s polls.

Voting is expected to commence at all the 28,992 polling stations across the country at 7:00am Wednesday.

Over 15 million Ghanaians will go to the polls to elect one out of 7 presidential candidates and 275 parliamentarians in some few hours time.

With the enthusiasm being exhibited by voters, the turnout is likely to be high in this year’s elections.

At Freeman Methodist Center in Suame constituency in Ashanti region with three polling stations, the first arrived at 8:30 am last night whiles that electoral officials arrive at 5 am today.

Presidential candidates contesting for the presidency include President John Mahama of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Nana Akufo-Addo of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP)

The rest are Dr. Edward Mahama of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Ivor Kobina Greenstreet of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings of the National Democratic Party (NDP) and Jacob Osei Yeboah, an Independent candidate.
