Ibrahim Mahama, CEO of Engineers and Planners, was expected to be honoured at the 2016 Musicians Union of Ghana – MUSIGA Grand Ball.

Abrantepa.com earlier reported that the union had mentioned that he was one of the four personalities to be given the Music Pillar Award for his contribution to the Grand Ball since its inception.

However, while Obour was giving his speech on the night, he stated that the award would be given to three personalities namely, Edward Boateng, CEO of Global Media Alliance; Betty Mould-Iddrissu former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, and Kasapreko Company Ltd.

It was unclear why Ibrahim Mahama was ‘excluded’ from the list but speaking to KMJ on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz, Tuesday, Obour stated that Ibrahim Mahama told the union he could not be present at the occasion. He mentioned that the union subsequently decided to present the award to him on a later date instead of someone receiving it on his behalf on the night.

The MUSIGA Grand Ball is an annual event which brings together industry players, state officials and prominent people on a night networking amidst entertainment.

This year’s edition held at the Banquet Hall saw personalities from corporate entities, stakeholders of the industry and other dignitaries present. It was under the distinguished patronage of President John Dramani Mahama and former President John Agyekum Kufuor but unfortunately, both could not make it.

MUSIGA auctioned musical instruments and items belonging to legendary Ghanaian musicians including the Best of Nana Ampadu’s album, PK Yamoah’s guitar, AB Crentsil’ dondo and Rev. Kusi Berko’s accordion.

An estimated GH¢32,000 was raised for the Ageing Musicians Welfare Fund (AMWeF) and the MUSIGA Academy at this year’s edition which came off Friday, November 4, at the Banquet Hall of the State House.
