The local movie gem who Wednesday declared support for Nana Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) said his colleague celebrities opted for a choice that they deemed fit and must be respected for that.

“I always condemn persons who speak against Dumelo, Beautiful and other celebrities who support NDC…Salinko is supporting the PPP and it is his choice so we have to respect each other’s choices…,” Agya Koo said in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen Programme on Wednesday.

The actor who is credited for reviving the local movie industry and several of his colleagues addressed a press conference on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 to declare support for the NPP flagbearer for the 2016 elections.

They cited the harsh economic conditions as the main reason for declaring support for the candidate who failed to win the presidency in 2008 and 2012.

“I speak the voice of the ordinary Ghanaian who is bearing the brunt of extreme economic hardships which has come about as a result of poor leadership. I have personally sat back and monitored critically how things are going and felt the need to join the crusade for change in the political administration of this country,” he said at the press conference.

Agya Koo further claimed that he and his colleagues would work to ensure that Nana Addo wins 57% of valid votes that would be cast in the December 7th polls to ascend the presidency.

Agya Koo who is also a musician follows a tall list of celebrities who have openly endorsed political parties and candidates.

John Dumelo and Mr Beautiful were joined by the likes of Mzbel to endorse the candidature of President John Mahama for a second term.

However, Mr Beautiful had claimed that his career as an actor took a nose dive after the endorsement as producers and directors claimed people were not patronising movies in which he featured any longer.

But Agya Koo believes that should not be the case as the celebrities like any other Ghanaian have choices which must be respected.
