The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has held a peace walk through the principal streets of Kumasi as part of its project dubbed ‘Using Music as a Tool for National Cohesion during Election 2012’.
The walk was sponsored by STAR-Ghana. STAR-Ghana supports strengthening transparency, accountable and responsive governance in Ghana.
The peace walk which was held last Wednesday featured Kumasi-based musicians and members of the creative arts as well as some service persons and members of the public.
Addressing the participants at the walk at the Jackson Park, the 1st Vice President of MUSIGA, Bessa Simons, advised the participants and all Ghanaians to be ambassadors of peace before, during and after the elections.
He mentioned that Ghana is celebrated worldwide as an oasis of peace and democracy in West Africa, and urged the people to diligently guard the peace.
Bessa Simons called on Ghanaians to remain dedicated to the peace and encouraged them to spread the message of peace to all and sundry.
Chairman of the Ashanti regional branch of MUSIGA, Nana Aboagye Da Costa, on his part, added that peace is the most important requirement for development and said the need for peaceful elections in December cannot be overstated.
He, therefore, urged the participants to remain committed to peace in all circumstances. Representatives of the various political parties who were invited for the walk and peace forum turned up after the forum had ended.
So far, MUSIGA has held peace walks in all the regions, with the Greater Accra edition scheduled for August 20.
