The hairstyle of Otiko Afisa Djaba, Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection has for some time now become the talk of town with a section of the public suggesting that her look is inappropriate for the office she holds.

While the conversation gets interesting with each passing minute, private legal practitioner, Maurice Ampaw has jumped to the defence of Ms. Otiko Djaba and has passionately expressed that he loves the hairstyle of the minister.

Speaking to GhanaWeb, the outspoken lawyer intimated that he finds nothing wrong with Madam Otiko Djaba’s hairstyle, adding that her critics have “no business doing”.

According to him, the minister can decide to be as stylish as she pleases and nobody has the right to attack her in that regard. He believes the most important thing is her ability to deliver.

“This is very trivial. How do you want the person to look like? The hypocrisy of it! The people of Ghanaian are looking for a woman who will deliver… Do we care about the hairstyle? Where in the constitution is a prescription of how a minister should look? This is trivial. Those raising this concern have nothing to think about. They don’t have anything to contribute. If Otiko Djaba wants to look stylish, so be it. I like the hairstyle,” he said.

Meanwhile, Otiko Djaba has described her hairstyle as symbolic of the new modern Ghanaian woman.

“When you ask me about my hair, you discriminate against me because I have the right to maintain my hairstyle, it’s not crazy, and it’s very African. People call me the swagger mama. They enjoy me because I am young at heart and when I hit the campuses they’re happy,” she said in an interview with Joy News.

“My hair style doesn’t affect the price of kenkey, my hairstyle does not affect poverty, my hairstyle is a winning hairstyle, and it encourages the young people. Ghana has about 65% of our population being the youth and being the Swagger Mama I believe that I am the best person to engage the youth,” she added.
