Outstanding Ghanaian film producer and an astute member of the Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG), Mr Owodze Donkor Francis known in the industry as Osoro Kyeame has risen against the initiative from the current administration of the FIPAG to facilitate loans for their members in order to help them produce quality movies for the market.
According to Osoro Kyeame in an exclusive interview with OGEE of SeancityGh, the initiative is needless and will not guarantee the success of the dying movie industry.
He further stated that the film producers are not cocoa farmers to be given loans therefore the leadership should rather think about putting in place good measures to revive the industry and how their movies would be highly patronised.
“What are we going to use the loans for while we don’t have a wider market. It’s not that the producers do not have money that is accounting for the low patronage of our movies. Individually we have money to produce our own movies but when we produce them, where is the market? Our movies are only distributed in Accra and Kumasi. What about the other regions? People travel all the way from other regions to these two places (Accra and Kumasi) to buy the movies. It is not loans that we need now. If we collect the loans, how do we pay it back with interests when there are no ready market for the movies? We’re not cocoa farmers to be given loans. They should rather think about putting in place good measures to revive the industry and stop talking about loans”.
Plans are far advanced by the executives of Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG) to facilitate loans for their members, an initiative they believe will help boost the works of the film producers to help them bring out quality movies to the public.
