Radio and television personality, George Quaye believes the country would progress should all take a bold step to ensure the right things are done just as the Electoral Commission of Ghana disqualified some presidential candidates from the December polls for failing to meet the nomination requirement for the Presidential contest.

The Electoral Commission on Monday announced the disqualification of 12 candidates citing absence of a required number of signatures, fraudulent signatures, improper filling of nomination forms among others as reasons.

Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings of National Democratic Party (NDP), Dr. Henry Herbert Lartey of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), Kofi Apkalu of the Independent People’s Party (IPP), Hassan Ayariga of the All People’s Party (APC) and Akua Donkor of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) are among candidates that suffered the disqualification.

In the midst of a debate on whether the EC faulted for applying the rules of the game, George Quaye in a Facebook post suggested that it was a bold decision.

According to him, the country will see development if everyone insists the right things are done.

“Finally….someone refuses to ‘manage’, ‘massage’, ‘tolerate’, ‘overlook’, ‘accept’ or ‘bend the rules’ to accommodate ‘sub standards’ ‘wrong doing’ ‘a deviation from the rules of engagement’, ‘mediocrity’, ‘errors’, etc. Way to go madam EC Chair. If all of us (me included) could ensure the right thing is done all the time, regardless the challenges and circumstances, we just might build a better Ghana,” his post read.
