Multi-talented artiste David Oscar has slammed the continual patronage of foreign stars at astronomical costs labeling the practice as “absolute nonsense”.

The artiste in an interview with asempanews.com condemned the decision of the [email protected] committee for buying into the idea of Don Moen to headline Ghana’s International Gospel Concert slated for March 7 in Accra.

He stressed that patronage of foreign artistes over local artistes is disrespectful to the local stars.

Similar to industry watchers and a section of the general public, he criticized the move to let the celebrated Gospel musician Don Moen headline Ghana’s International Gospel Concert, instead of patronizing big gospel artistes like Tagoe Sisters, Rev. Josh Laryea, Daughters of Glorious Jesus who per his estimation understand the nation’s strife to attain independence and thus could better meet the expectation of Ghanaians during such a celebration.

“Frankly speaking, I think this trend should be discouraged. The patronage of foreign entertainers at the expense of our local artistes is absolute nonsense,” he said.

“We were here when Nigerian music duo P-Square charged a whopping $300, 000.00 to perform at Malta Guinness “Top of The World Celebration” Concert while Sarkodie and R2Bee who were also billed for the same show were offered $20,000.00 in 2012 according to peacefmonline.com reports”.

“Have they paid any such amount to a local artiste before? And when they finished what did they tell us… Ghanaians shine your own stars. Ghana, when are we going to learn?” he fumed.

Jefferson Sackey, Chairman of the Media and Publicity Sub Committee of ‘Ghana 60 Years On’ planning committee however came out to explain that the Don Moen and the International Gospel Concert on Inpependence Day move was a private initiative.

“A group contacted us that they are in the process of bringing in Don Moen and we thought that it is a laudable idea to have him in the country especially as we are celebrating 60 years of existence as a nation,” he said in a report by myjoyonline.com.

But to David Oscar, this trend is an outright disrespect to indigenous artistes and organizers must put a stop to it and learn to start promoting their own entertainers.
