Despite the controversy that has engulfed the Ghana Music Awards following an allegation by George Quaye, Public Relations Officer of Charterhouse, organisers of the event that the most offers of bribe that come to him are from gospel artistes, President of the Musicians Union of Ghana, Bice Osei Kuffour (Obour) thinks it is not taking any shine from the scheme.

According to Obour, the allegation cannot mar the beauty of Ghana Music Awards since every scheme comes with controversies which eventually whip up public interest.

“Music awards come with a lot of buzz because it is what it is… I don’t think it’s taking any shine from the event” he told GhanaWeb.com.

George Quaye, who is one of the producers of the event and also serves as Communications Head for the board came under heavy criticisms after he was reported to have alleged that a lot of gospel artistes have offered him bribe in exchange for picking awards.

The magnitude of the backlash led to the outspoken personality rendering an unqualified apology but it appears some gospel artistes are still aggrieved.

Gospel artiste, Ohemaa Mercy has vowed to return all her plaques if George Quaye refuses to mention names of artistes who tried to bribe him as the allegation casts a slur on the gospel music fraternity.

Obour who is a member of the board said he doubts if musicians offer bribes.

“I don’t think musicians will do that but again if they did and George Quaye has some names, I think he should put it out there… If it is really true that people have tried to give bribes, I think they should be exposed and that practise must be condemned,” he noted.
