First impressions are pretty important in whatever we do.
But first impressions are pretty much everything when it comes to meeting a guy for the first time.
Basically, if there is something about you that he dislikes or unsure of, it’s going to stick in his mind forever.
But what are the first things about us that men actually notice?
Knowledge is power and knowing what it is about us that a guy’s eyes gravitate towards when he first sees us can prevent us from making mistakes that turn him off.
Put simply, guys notice everything about us. It’s true. But there are ten things they notice first. Let’s take a look at what they are.
Your hair
If a guy meets you head-on, the first thing he’s going to look at is your face. There isn’t really anywhere else his eyes can go. But if he spots you from behind first, he’s going to take a long look at your lustrous (or not very lustrous mane).
Many guys will say that they’re experts at deciding whether or not a girl is pretty just by looking at the back of her head. Sound strange? It’s because of your hair.
A woman’s hair might not suggest what your face looks like, but it certainly can suggest how you present yourself. If your hair is shiny, healthy and luscious, it’s going to help you form a good first impression.
Your smile
Yes, your smile is important. But first of all, it’s important that you have a smile. Girls who don’t smile but have a perpetual frown on their face are going to put a guy off. Men want to see your shiny white teeth! They like to see radiant smiles that suggest you are a positive person.
A man can also tell when a smile is fake or real. A beaming smile suggests health, vitality, and positivity, while a fake smile just suggests you’re a fake person who has a few self-esteem issues.
If you’re worried about your teeth, we suggest buying some teeth whitener. Also, chew gum for fresher breath. It will help!
Your laugh
If a guy can turn that smile into a laugh, he’s going to feel pretty good about himself – but he’s also going to feel pretty good about you. Showing that you can laugh at his jokes makes him feel comfortable and confident about where this is heading, and he’ll take it as an invitation to get to know you more.
A girl who can’t communicate a warm laugh but simply expresses herself with a slight smile instead is not really going to form a very good impression, especially in a guy who doesn’t take life seriously and wants to have a bit of fun.
How you interact with others
A guy will watch the way you interact with others in order to get a better feel for you as a person. He’ll be looking out for acts of kindness and compassion, and he’ll take note of the way you talk to cashiers and handle certain situations.
Don’t feel as though you’re being judged because this is something everyone does. Or would you deny that you’ve never watched closely the way a guy interacts with other people?
Your posture
A woman who stands perfectly upright with her head held high and her shoulders perfectly rigid is sending out the message that she’s full of confidence, bounce, and vitally. Moreover, she’s comfortable in her own skin.
Self-confidence is something that many guys are attracted to, which is why they instinctively look at your posture. If your shoulders are slumped and your head is bowed, it’s going to tell them that you just want to hide away from the world. It isn’t going to send out a very good impression.
Your eyes
Oscar Wilde once said that our eyes are the windows to our soul. Eyes are also stunningly mysterious and hypnotic, and guys can get lost in them. And although a less tactful guy might spend more time looking at something else, most will be looking into your eyes during initial contact.
They’re not just looking for something beautiful – they really are looking to get lost in your soul in order to discover more about you.
Your friends
No, he isn’t checking out your friends to see if they’re hotter (hopefully not anyway!). But the saying that birds of a feather always flock together is very true. Essentially, he takes a look at your friends to get a better idea of the type of person you are and what values you might have.
For example, if your friends are loud and obnoxious in the bar, he’s going to assume the worst of you. Similarly, if they all same cultured and intelligent, he’s going to take it that you’re the same.
For this reason, it’s important that you surround yourself with the people that you actually like and enjoy spending time with.
Your voice
Yes, your voice is something a guy almost immediately notices about you. And believe it or not, some guys are really picky.
If yours is incredibly sexy, it’s going to be a big turn on for him. If, however, it’s strangely high-pitched and obnoxious, he’s definitely going to notice it – but this won’t be a good thing.
Your manners
Did you thank him when he bought you dinner? Were you polite with your mom on the phone? Do you put your phone away when you’re talking to him?
Believe it or not, men warm to girls with manners.
Your dance moves
If you happen to meet your new man on a dance floor, it’s likely that he’s going to be judging the way you dance. Any girl who can bust a move with the best of them shows that she’s full of confidence, and isn’t afraid to have a good time. It shows that she’s fun.
So the next time you’re with your friends on the dance floor, remember that there is a good chance you’re being observed. Try to be confident and just let your hair down and have a good time. Don’t be over the top and don’t overthink things. Just move to the music.
