This was the latest successful fundraising event hosted by the NDC New York branch under the auspices of the NDC-USA Chapter as the Party gears up for the December 7th general election.

An enthusiastic crowd jammed the venue where the presence of traditional rulers in their elegant outfits provided a must-see moment. Attended by dignitaries, the patriotic men and women of the NDC, and chosen Kings and Queens, this was a night to celebrate the glory of country, a night for Ghanaian pride.

The event’s high octane inspiration was fueled by stirring speakers and pulsating music.

An all-star line-up of officials offered words of wisdom:

Rev. Grace Gator of Full Stature Missions International Invited God’s presence by reciting the opening prayer. A Muslim prayer followed–delivered by Chief Imam of the Yankusa Association.

In his welcoming address, Moses Klu Mensah, NDC New York Branch Chairman, declared, “We meet here tonight in a borough noted for knowledge, in a city noted for progress, in a state noted for strength.” The point made was that President Mahama is working to ensure all three for Ghana and that NDC’s united front will yield tremendous dividends in this regard. Observing the unprecedented turnout, the Chairman buoyantly promised a larger venue next time.

Nii Armah Ashiboi, Chairman, NDC-USA Chapter, reviewed the history-making development Ghana has experienced under the leadership of President Mahama and the NDC government. He exclaimed that he was proud to have NDC DNA in his blood.

Obaapanine Nana Ama Dufie, Queen Mother of Agona Wamase, led the introduction of the traditional rulers comprised of Kings, Queens-mothers

Citing the good works of President Mahama encompassing construction (including roads, hospitals, schools, airport and harbor expansion, stadiums, and factories), peace, and security, she advised Ghanaians to not succumb to lies propagated by unbalanced individuals seeking to undermine NDC popularity. Since government spending is necessary for national growth, the Queen-mother remarked, expenditures for developmental projects are “not debt, but fine investment.”

Nana Osei Owusu Kuffour II, Senior Linquist of Essumeja-Asantemanso traditional area spoke on behalf of Nananom in the US and in Ghana. He explained why traditional rulers quickly respond to NDC calls for action and patronize its programs. While the constitution of Ghana does not allow Nananom to engage in party politics, it does not prevent endorsement of, and participation in, worthwhile courses of action.

The keynote address was delivered by Jojo Bruce – Quansah, representative of the Ghana Ambassador to the United States. Mr. Bruce-Quansah reminded the gathering to be ever mindful of the historic accomplishments and ongoing projects which are transforming Ghanaian lives in a visible way. He advised that in the evidence-based NDC campaign, the facts are the armament against any dogmatists who distort the truth by denying the reality of progress achieved and continuing.

Spynews correspondent, Seth Mifetu, made an appeal for funds. In his remarks, Mr. Mifetu noted that “It is the size of one’s will which determines one’s success.” Correspondingly, if the will of the people is manifested through “immeasurable” support for the NDC, party and country will be propelled forward mightily.

No Big Apple happening would be complete without a celebrity sighting. This NDC event did not disappoint. The already energized crowd was seriously pumped up when the famous Ghanaian hip life rapper, Edem Agbreviadey A. K.A. “Ayigbe Edem,” was spotted in the midst of dignitaries. Initial surprise turned to scream-out-loud delight when Edem took the stage to thrill the audience in his own special way.

This was a hugely successful night on behalf of the worthiest of causes. Substantial funds were raised and spirits uplifted. The silence of the lion (in contrast to the noise of others) is not a sign of passivity. NDC is committed to the responsibility entrusted to it by the good people of Ghana. As Mr. Bruce- Quansah observed, the people of our country whom NDC serves have seen our work and will cast their votes on December 7th in favor of continuing our noble march.
