Bernard Adjei Ghanaian Making A Difference In the Uk Banking Industry

The Young Banker of the Year Competitions is one of the most challenging and rewarding events in the banking industry calendar and the awards provide an opportunity for high potential future leaders to bring forward their innovative ideas, raise the bar in great customer service and support the journey to rebuild the UK banking industry.

Bernard Adjei , an employee from LBG has made it to the final of the Young Banker of the Year competition with his proposal to improve International Transfers.

Statement from Bernard Adjei

“I strongly believe that there is an opportunity for financial institutions to invest in products specifically tailored to the ethnic minority market, and this competition offered me the perfect opportunity to showcase this idea. As a Ghanaian, I hope to inspire and empower other Ghanaians to get involved in similar opportunities that will showcase their own skills and abilities”.

Biography of Bernard Adjei

Bernard Adjei is a Ghanaian raised in Dansoman (First stop and then Exhibition); he attended St. Martin de Porres before moving to the UK to pursue a career in Business and IT. He attended the University of Bolton gaining a degree in Business Information System.

Prior to becoming a Project Manager at one of the leading banks in the UK, Bernard started his career at Manchester United FC as a waiter, progressing through the ranks to become a Junior Business System Analyst and finally then to the role of an EPOS Support Analyst. During his time at Manchester United, he was nominated and won the Team Leader of the Year (2012-13). He later moved to NCC Group, a leading company in the Escrow Sector to become a Business Analyst where he worked with companies such as Zurich and Capita.

As a Business Change Manager, Bernard has been involved in a number of key projects that has promoted efficiency within the Banking industry. In 2015, Bernard was awarded the “Group Functions Award” for his contribution within the Risk Portfolio sector. He was twice nominated the Graduate of the Month in 2015. He is a member of the Group Ethnic Minority (GEM) society, where he plays an active role in promoting diversity and equality within the bank. Outside work, Bernard enjoys hobbies such as flying lessons, watching football and travelling.

Bernard began making contributions towards understanding the humanitarian world in the early stage of his career by raising more than £10,000 for Children in Need. Bernard has setup the RISE: A Call to Action scheme, which promotes diversity and inclusion within the banking industry. The scheme aims to encourage ethnic minority professionals to visit schools with a high concentration of ethnic minorities to empower and mentor students.

Bernard’s ambition is to empower ethnic minorities to showcase their skills in competitions such as the Young Banker of the Year. He also aims to use the competition to provide a platform for the development of products and services targeted to the Ethnic Minority Market.
