According to her, Turkey had good expertise in the agricultural value chain and was, therefore, ready to support Ghana to develop projects in the agricultural sector.

Ms Bayazit said this when she paid a working visit to the Minister of Information, Mr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, to formally introduce herself to him.

She said Turkey also had expertise in other fields such as greenhouse farming which it could introduce in Ghana to boost agricultural productivity and, therefore, support the government in job creation.

Turkish businesses

She said the bilateral trade between Ghana and Turkey was estimated at $400 million, a figure the embassy was targeting to reach $500 million by 2020.

She added that Turkey had already invested in diverse areas in the Ghanaian economy and cited the airport expansion works and water treatment projects where Turkish companies had been involved in, as well as investments in the production of cassava starch for export, and the Power Barge in Tema.

However, she said since agriculture was the backbone for development in any nation, it was important for Ghana to also develop its agriculture to world-class standard.

For his part, Mr Hamid said Turkey was an emerging market where a lot of Ghanaian businesses had already ventured into.

He said the agenda of the government was to make Ghana a business destination for investors.

He, therefore, called on Ms Bayazit to persuade more Turkish investors into the country to take advantage of the numerous businesses that the country abounded in.

Mr Hamid said the government would make agriculture the lead sector in the economy so that it could produce enough to feed people as well as for export.
