Some Ghanaians have recently complained of intermittent power cuts, blaming the situation on load shedding.

But speaking to Citi Business News after a tour of some of the project sites in the Dodowa District, the Public Relations Officer of ECG William Boateng explained that the exercise is aimed at expanding the power distribution networks in the country.

“The challenges we are facing in recent times has to do with distribution network . we are making sure that we do a lot of projects in the system and in the course undertaking those projects we put the system off to enable the contractors work on the on the lines,” he siad .

According to him, most people attribute the situation to dumsor because they do not get an opportunity to hear announcements made by the company to give prior notice to the public.

“If we announce and you don’t hear the impression is created as if we have reverted to the load shedding exercise, but it is not true, we are not doing any load shedding,” he explained.

“What customers are growing through now is the distribution system challenges and this comes about basically about three things that we are talking about , one is what we call planned maintenance works,” he added.

He cited for example that power supply to half of the Accra is normally cut through the Achimota and Mallam Bulk Supply points during such distribution network expansions.

“The station in Achimota, the Mallam Bulk Supply point, when those ones go off for maintenance, of course about half of Accra is going to go off and people will feel the pressure or they will see that such as massive area is off, but its just maintenance” he noted.
