According to him, some contractors working on some of the roads despite being given mobilization funds have deliberately refused to go on site on time. Inusah Fuseini gave the warning while briefing journalists at Twifo Praso during a two-day working visit to are area to inspect ongoing cocoa road projects in the Region.

He said the visit was necessitated following complaints from residents around the corridor over some of the under-performing contractors. “Our purpose here is simply to do a snap shot inspection of the roads, identify those contractors who are not performing, warn them seriously and if they fail to heed to the warning we terminate their contract.

Because it is important that having awarded the roads, people living within the corridor would feel the presence of the contractors, would appreciate what we are doing to alleviate their hardship. So it should not be a situation where the delay is imposing further hardship on the people within the corridor,” he stated.

The Minister said government has allocated GHc28 million cedis for the construction of the Twifo Praso bridge and work would soon commence. “The Twifo Praso bridge is to be funded from the enhanced road fund jointly with COCOBOD.

It’s about GHc28 million cedis, we have come to inspect and we are just waiting to do the procurement and work would begin,” Mr. Fuseini added The Chief Executive Officer of COCOBOD, Dr. Stephen Opuni, said he has warned the under-performing contractors several times but said another warning would be accompanied with a termination letter.

He said COCOBOD has committed $300 million dollars for road construction alone between 2015 and 2016.
