President John Dramani Mahama says his next administration would see the introduction of a “Green Revolution” in Ghana aimed at multiplying productivity in the agriculture sector of the country.
Addressing party supporters at the launch of the National Democratic Congress’s 2016 Manifesto in the Brong Ahafo region, the president said “my next of term of office would see a green revolution in Ghana.
Agriculture and Agri-Business would be a major anchor of the economic transformation and livelihood empowerment project (ETLEP).
“The next NDC government would launch a green revolution aimed at doubling the output of our staple products particularly grains and tubers by the year 2021. This would guarantee food security for a growing population as well as provide the raw material base for implementing our agro industrial strategy.”
This was amongst a number of promises made by the President in an attempt to woo voters to retain him in power for another 4 year term.
He went on further to say “within the period, Ghana would become a Net exporter of rice and maize as well as become self sufficient in poultry, sugar and tomato production.”
The Convention Peoples Party (CPP) may raise questions about this new promise by President John Mahama and the NDC following what has been described as ‘copying an idea’ being espoused by their flagbearer, Ivor Greenstreet.
