National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) President, Christian Adai Poku told Joy News they are dissatisfied with government’s handling of the issue, which informs their the decision.

He said though they have seen letters from the National Pension Regulatory Authority (NPRA) directing the Comptroller and Accountant General’s Department to pay the contribution to their fund managers nothing has been done.

The unions have pressurised government to release the five percent Tier II pension deductions to their fund managers several months running.

They dragged government to court and after an out of court settlement, it was agreed that payment would be done on April 1.

However, after seven months, the unions said they have not received the 5 percent Tier II pension contributions as agreed.

Mr Adai Poku said the strike is important for government to put a premium on the union’s concern and treat it with the seriously it deserves.

The unions are expected to meet later Monday to finalise all outstanding issues regarding the strike.

The labour groups include the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Ghana Physician Assistants Association (GPAA), Government Hospital Pharmacists Association (GHOPSA) and Ghana Association of Certified Registered Anesthetists (GRCRA).

The others are the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT), Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSSAG) and Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG).
