With the appointment of Paul Ansah as acting Director-General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), he has been advised to continue with the good works he has inherited from Mr. Richard Anamoo and ignore the rebels who would want to selfishly hinder the progress of the port.

Mr. Eric Arthur, an aide to the former boss of GPHA, was boastful about the massive infrastructural development that took place at the various ports before President Akufo-Addo announced a new head.

According to him, Mr. Richard Anamoo raised the bar under his watch as GPHA boss and brought unity amongst the various unions he presided over.

In an interview on Okay FM, Mr. Eric Arthur stated that with Mr. Richard Anamoo as former head of GPHA, he ensured that the Maritime Hospital at Tema was built and extended expansion projects to Takoradi as well.

“For the first time, the Takoradi port is ready for high tonnage of vessels and this can be attributed to the good works of Mr. Richard Anamoo”, he said.

Mr. Eric Arthur continued that working as head of GPHA doesn’t come on a silver platter and therefore cautioned Mr. Paul Ansah to gird his loins as he moves in.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in a letter dated Wednesday February 22, 2017 announced the appointment of Paul Ansah as acting Director-General of GPHA.

A portion of the letter read “Pursuant to section 8(2) of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority Act 1986 (P. N.D.C.L 160), I hereby appoint you to act as the Director-General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, pending receipt of the constitutionally required advice of the governing board of the Authority, given in consultation with the Public Services Commission.

Paul Ansah’s appointment could be described as a political appointment, and it is based on this that Eric Arthur further cautioned him not to allow partisan activities override the purpose for which he was appointed.

Speaking from experience, Mr. Richard Anamoo revealed that as soon Ghanaians elected a new government, some union members at the port who were aligned to the New Patriotic Party, came out denigrate their former boss Mr. Richard Anamoo by calling him a thief.

“I expect Paul Ansah to condemn the vicious attack on his predecessor by the junior staff. If he doesn’t do it today and there is a change of government someday, the same people would come out and call him names he would never like to hear and see.

It is upsetting to wake up oneday and see stories on front-pages of newspapers calling you a thief. This was the same thing that happened to Mr. Richard Anamoo, the former boss of GPHA”, he stated.
