Upper West sector commander of the Authority, Assistant Commissioner, George Attah Kruffie stated that no financial penalty would be imposed during the one-month period.

Speaking at a seminar on tax education in Wa, Monday, he said the aim of the seminar is to facilitate trade and improve the compliance level of taxpayers in order to increase their revenue.

The Upper West customs division of the Authority has been given a revenue target of GH¢3.10 million to meet.

Mr Kruffie said those who fail to take advantage of the dispensation would have their vehicles and motorbikes intercepted and a 300 percent penalty would be imposed on them in addition to the duty and taxes involved.

He said the regional task force would intensify their operations to intercept uncustomed vehicles and motorbikes in the region.

He also expressed worry over the increasing number of smuggled goods into the country but was quick to add that they are advancing plans to deal with them.

Assistant Commissioner Kruffie appealed to businessmen and women to use approved routes to import and export goods into and out of the country as well as renew licenses when they are due.
