Ghana To Get New Automobile Technical School

American Auto Parts LTD (AAPL), in partnership with TATA Motors Holdings Ghana, is to establish an Automobile Technical Institute to train artisans and mechanics in industrial best practices, in line with the Government’s efforts to transform local industries.

Mr Sam Nii Anum, the Managing Director of AAPL, who announced this in Accra, on Wednesday, said the programmes would include Certified Auto Technician; Auto Body and Paint Technician, Diesel and Truck Technology and Commercial Motor Vehicle Operations.

They would benefit literate and illiterate applicants, who would undergo intensive short programmes and internships to be able to deal with the whole spectrum of automobile repair and care.

Mr Anum was speaking at the launch of a joint Sales and Service Center to provide a comprehensive vehicle sales and after-sales services to prospective and existing and TATA vehicle owners in the Accra Metropolis and beyond.

It would also offer towing services.

Mr Anum said: “We are mindful of the Government’s focus on education and job creation, we support this. This will require local industrial transformation and we are ready to participate in this.

“We need proper work ethics in order to stay competitive, and we would and uphold the dignity deserving of the Ghanaian worker,” he said

Mr Ruchir Bhatnagar, the Head of TATA, expressed TATA’s commitment to customer satisfaction because it was its prime aim.

He said the partnership would promote local entrepreneur skills and uplift knowledge in car services to boost delivery to its market whilst improving the living standards of people in the community.

Mr Kwasi Ofori Asiamah, the Minister of Transport, said the engine of growth to the development of businesses was partnership to advance their services and progressively invest in the economy to employ Ghanaian youth.

He said: “In terms of policy, the Government has come out with the legal framework and the environment to support the private sector to make sure that when the economy becomes very good, so that they will have the capital and the resources to trade and employ people to expand their business.

Mr Mustapha Hamid, the Minister of Information, therefore, urged businesses to institute measures and partnerships as a way to resolve unemployment.

He stated that the towing services of the Centre would go a long way to rid the roads of accidents.
