The beneficiary institutions are the College of Health Sciences of the University of Ghana Medical School, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, GH¢30,000; School of Medical Sciences of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), GH¢22,500; Ghana National Trust Fund, GH¢22,500 and the University of Ghana Students Financial Aid Office, GH¢22,500.

The rest are the Ghana Heart Foundation, GH¢22,500; Urology Department of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, GH¢22,500; and the Department of Child Health, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, GH¢22,500.

In a welcome address, the Managing Director of Ghana Re, Dr Abiba Zakariah, said the company was pleased to make such presentations to the institutions.

She indicated that the occasion had become an annual ritual of the company, since its success depended largely on prosperous communities and institutions.

“By this, we are giving back to society what we have gained from their patronage.

“The company has over the years exhibited its commitment to the promotion of education through its pledge to help mitigate key challenges in the health sector by assisting with the training of specialists locally,” she said.

Apart from these, Dr Zakariah stated that the company continued to contribute to the Postgraduate Endowment Fund of the College of Health Sciences of the University of Ghana to assist the college to train more medical specialists.

She added that some institutions had also appealed to it, of which special attention would be given.

“We are happy to note that our donations to the Students Financial Aid Office have contributed to the training of undergraduates in extreme financial difficulties,” she added.

Dr Zakariah pledged that in the coming years, Ghana Re would increase its contributions and donations to the institutions, noting that it had done everything possible to increase the money allocated to the institutions this year.

Representatives of the various beneficiary institutions were pleased with the donations, and urged the company to do more.

They also used the opportunity to call on other companies and corporate institutions to emulate the gesture.

On behalf of the beneficiary institutions, the Vice Dean of the School of Medical Sciences of the KNUST, Professor F. A. Yeboah, thanked Ghana Re for the assistance.
