Member of Parliament (MP) for Domeabra-Obom constituency of the Greater Accra Region, Madam Sophia Karen Ackuaku has advised female National Service personnel to desist from giving sexual favours to their bosses all in the name of getting their roles back after National Service.
According to her, it is important for young girls across the country who find themselves in the corporate or private institutions to shun sleeping with men in the office in order to be employed after they have served for a year.
She stressed that these young girls are supposed to be aware of women who were serving in the company before them and never got employed hence the reason why believes they should quickly report such cases of abuse to the police or rightful authorities for the law to take the men on.
“In this century, any girl should stop sleeping with men for jobs especially the national service girls. As a deputy director of operations, these issues came up a lot. Cases of them giving in to men to get jobs after service…” she said on Accra FM.
“Why don’t they believe that someone was there before them? Don’t let any man abuse you anyhow just because you want employment. If someone abuses you, you can complain to the authorities or even the police…” she added.
Nevertheless, the MP urged all parents to stop making boys feel superior to women to reduce the level of stigmatisation against women.
Mrs. Ackuaku indicated that, though it is not easy to find a job as a woman, young girls should desist from sleeping with their supervisors just to maintain their jobs.
“We have to go down and educate parents against the upbringing makes the women feel inferior leaving the girls to be more superior. The stigmatisation prevents a lot of girls from talking. We have to abort using those ‘phrases’ to make the girls come out during these times…”
“The jobs are not there. Yes, we know but you can establish a job that can keep you going. Small-scale enterprises can help. Selling ‘koko’-porridge is even work. It will bring income. There is no law stopping that is stopping them from reporting the men…” she noted.
