Accompanied by other Directors from the head office, Mr. Busia interacted with the staff on how to put the Authority on a high pedestal and how to deal with the corruption ‘tag’ slurred on DVLA.

The CE lamented the negative impression saying even though staff do their best, their efforts are not seen, but rather, shrouded by the activities of middlemen popularly called ‘goro boys’ which dent the reputation of the organisation.

Unfortunately, he said, such acts are fuelled by some staff warning that any staff found meddling in such acts would not be spared when caught.

Mr. Busia said apart from bringing his experiences to bear on the Authority, he is poised to change the negative behaviours that cast a slur on the Authority’s image.

The Tema Regional Manager, Mr. Osei Bio in his remarks, indicated that his outfit is concerned about the negative perception noting that they are determined to work with the Chief Executive to achieve his target of curbing this menace.

In a quest to deal with that, he said, his outfit has mounted public address system which repeatedly announce to clients not to transact business with any middleperson but with DVLA staff only.

He took the delegation on a tour of the test ground which was built with support from the World Bank stating that it is the first of its kind in the country.

The Chief Executive with his entourage also visited the Elie Company Limited (ECL), a private vehicle testing station where he interacted with management.

The Executive President of the station, Mr. Samuel Sackey briefed the delegation on the activities of the station and appealed to the Authority to reconsider the sitting of similar stations closer as that could hurt their business considering the huge investments they have made in establishing their station.

He assured the entourage of the station’s determination to work with DVLA to ensure that the activities of middlemen were eliminated.

As a measure, he said, his outfit has employed technological means throughout the testing processes and by so doing, he said, they have eliminated any human contact which could influence the process.

Mr. Sackey conducted the delegation to the testing bays and introduced them to the testing processes.

At the Accra (37) office, the CEO interacted with the staff assuring them of his vision of not only transforming the Authority but to help boost its image thereby eliminating the negative impression associated with the Authority.

The Deputy Director in charge of the Regional Office, Alhaji Iddrisu Huseini, assured the CEO and the delegation of their resolve to work with him so as to achieve the target set.

The delay in printing drivers’ license, the need to prosecute people who fake drivers license and roadworthy documents as well as, the bad road networks particularly the road leading to the Tema office, among others, were the concerns raised by staff during the interaction.
