The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) some few days ago announced that it has increased the price of fuel by 4 percent and not the 11 percent announced by some section of the media.

In a statement it issued Monday, October 17, the COPEC said that price of diesel effective October 16, 2016 was reviewed upward between 8 and 11 percent. However, the Chief Executive Officer of the NPA, Moses Asaga described the announcement as false, hence should be disregarded since fuel prices has gone up by 4 percent.

But the Committed Drivers are protesting over the increment and have vowed to clad themselves in red in protest over the increment. In an interview with Nyankonton Mu Nsem, the Public Relations Officer (PRO), for the Association, Francis Appiah said, if government fails to respond to their grievances, they will advise themselves.

He further threatened that they gang up and vote against the ruling government should their concerns fall on death ears. ”We will raise red flags in protest against the prices of fuel. The exercise is a nationwide activity. We will clad our cars in red in protest against hikes in fuel prices.

The prices at the world market keeps dropping but government keeps increasing it. We want the price for fuel reduced otherwise, we will have no other choice to also increase transport fares by 20 percent effective Monday…If government thinks drivers will vote for them then, they should forget about it. We will kick them out like we did to the NPP, in 2008. We will not waste our votes on a government that’s insensitive to our plights.”
