According to the association, they have been sidelined in all the tax cuts announced in the 2017 budget.

Speaking to Citi Business News, the National President of the Ghana Tourism Federation and Past President of CRAG, Okatakyie Nana Anim I, said government must reconsider granting them tax exemption.

“This is the time the government has to look up to the car rentals operations in this country. Why should others enjoy tax exemptions and others don’t? It used to be there but how many car rentals had the opportunity to enjoy tax exemption?.” he said.

He added that “government has to come in and support the car rental business. When there is a cake, it should be shared by all and sundry.”

He was of the view that even though the removal of import duties on spare parts will boost the automobile industry, its impact would have been direct.

“We appreciate the tax relief enjoyed by the Abbosey Okai spare parts dealers because we buy parts from them but then we are looking at the lives of people,” he argued.

“So I think it’s time government also has to turn and look at the car rentals as well.” he emphasized.

He spoke to Citi Business News at the sidelines of a Breakfast Meeting organised by the Car Rentals Association of Ghana.

The Breakfast meeting was aimed at discussing pertinent issues affecting the association and how best to solve the problems facing the association.

President of CRAG, Seth Yeboah Ocran added that government must support them.

He added that the association is ready to work hand in hand with the tourism authority to help curb the numerous road accidents which claim many lives annually.
